“Fast bowlers are like Ferrari” – you cannot use them for daily drives on regular basis, you need to use it wisely and when it’s actually required. The same goes for fast bowlers, a fast bowlers shelf life is so small, he needs to take care of minute aspects related to his body and his bowling. Right from the rhythm, release, speed, landing, fitness, agility, run up and strength, a fast bowler has to work on multiple cores to ensure he delivers at his optimum best for his team. Also fast bowlers are so much prone to injuries and niggles, nowadays captains mostly use them in shorter formats to ensure maximum efficiency. Even in the longer formats, they are being used wisely with short spells.

One such bowler who has been working hard daily on his fitness, on his bowling and on his pace is Harshil Doshi from Mumbai. Little did he knew, that a aspiring bowler from a small area like Kandivali, Mumbai would be bowling to top IPL players in KKR Nets. Yes, in 2018, Harshil was spotted by Abhishek Nayar courtesy a video which went viral on Cricketgraph’s social media platform.

Throwback to 2019 and coming back to 2021, Harshil has improved leaps and bounds in terms of overall fitness, strength and pace. Now, he is able to clock in the higher 120’s while also crossing 130+ mark. Compared to others, Harshil began playing cricket quite late from the age of 20 and it certainly gets difficult to acclimatize as a professional player when you start your journey a bit late. In 2015, Harshil joined ithink Sportz Cricket Academy in Kandivali under Head Coach Umesh Patwal who has worked with many international teams. During 2 years of lockdown, Harshil has worked day in and out on his bowling as well as on his fitness to achieve his dream of playing Domestic and International cricket. Harshil’s pace has also increased and now he can easily cross the 130kmph mark even touching the higher 130’s on regular occasions.

Harshil who is aiming to play Ranji Trophy in the coming seasons is currently pursuing cricket from Hyderabad representing Top Division Sportive Cricket Club. Harshil is currently training at Coaching Beyond Cricket Clinic under the Guidance of Former Indian Fielding Coach R Sridhar. In 2022, Harshil was also selected to play in U.S Premier League which is one of the coveted T20 Tournaments of United States. Since the time he has started pursuing cricket in Hyderabad, Harshil has come up with some impressive all round performances and he is certainly one player to watchout for!

In 2023, Harshil also added one more feather to his cap playing Premier Division in UK representing Spartans Essex Cricket Club. Harshil also played for a few other clubs during that season and overall came back with 27 wkts to his name. Harshil was also selected in Hyderabad Senior Team probables in the 2023 season across all formats while in Mumbai Cricket he made it into the A & B Division teams like National CC and Repro for Times Shield.

Speaking with Zoom Cricket, Harshil shared: The first academy I joined at the age of 20 was ithink Sportz under Umesh sir. You get to learn many things from Umesh Patwal sir as he has worked with so many international players over the years. Also he has that unique ability to convey a message to a player without speaking much or being rude, that was the best part of working with him. After that I was fortunate to work under Abhishek Nayar sir who has been a legend of Mumbai Cricket, abhishek sir’s records says it all and just being on the ground where he is standing is a learning experience. There have been days where I used to work in BPO at night and play during the days so I could take care of my expenses and since then life has changed a lot thanks to numerous people who came to my life right from Umesh sir, Abhishek sir, Cricketgraph team and even my wife who has been a pillar of support for me.

Before Covid, i was in a few clubs but hardly got any matches to prove and perform. Most of the times, i would be sitting on the bench. Now since 2 years it has been Covid lockdown so again unable to play any matches. I am preparing myself for the upcoming season & waiting for opportunities at Club Level so i can help my team win, prove myself and contribute in my team’s win for whichever club or franchise i play for. I am also hoping to get an opportunity to play in T20 Mumbai one day because its one platform where entire Mumbai watches you and i want to make everyone who have helped me so far proud”
