PROFILE:
With increasing competition every passing day, even making it to top division club cricket is a herculean task and when a player goes on to represent a state, it certainly is a commendable achievement. One such player who has fought all the odds and now playing at first class level is Anunay Singh from Bihar Ranji Team. The fast bowling all-rounder is one of the very few players who have made it to the first class team without playing age group level cricket at state level. Anunay Singh’s journey has been a testimony of sheer hard work and patience as he keeps grinding hard to be a regular fixture for Bihar across all formats.
Anunay Singh started playing cricket at the age of 10 under Coach Satyaprakash Singh. Over the years, Anunay has worked with numerous coaches namely Sanjay Singh,Kalyan Singh, Naresh Jain, Ajay Sharma, A.N Sharma, Subroto Banerjee, Jwala Singh, Ashok Kumar, Nikhlesh Ranjan, Pramod kumar, Pradeep Singh & Sunil Rana to name a few. Apart from playing for Bihar, Anunay also represents multiple cricket clubs at top division level. At present, Anunay trains & plays for Cricket Academy of Patna and Neena Thapa Cricket Academy. Anunay currently trains under Coach Manoj Kumar, Prakash Narayan Singh & Prabhat Guan.
Over the years, Anunay has given sparkling performances at Club and District Level which has resulted in him playing for Bihar. So far he has taken around 11 fifers across all levels while he also has 6 half centuries with a best score 87* to his name. Anunay has played district level cricket representing Vaishali and Lakshisarai districts in Bihar. Being a fast bowling all-rounder, he has often troubled the batsman with his nippy pace and accuracy while he also chips in with the bat wherever his team requires him to contribute, making him a valuable asset for any cricket team.
Speaking with Zoomcricket.in, Anunay shared – “Well struggle and I have walked side by side in this journey. First it was a struggle to make my place in Bihar Cricket Team and still the struggles are not yet over. Everyday is a new day and new challenge, struggle comes along. My most memorable moment certainly was when I received my List ‘A’ Debut Cap in the first match of Vijay Hazare Trophy against Nagaland in Gujarat.
Also I can never forget the first time I received my first class debut cap in the Ranji Trophy vs Dehradun. One bowling spell which will remain close to my heart all my life would be my dream bowling spell to Hitman Rohit Sharma in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Quarter Finals at Just Cricket Ground in Bangalore. I was bowling in a really good zone and Rohit Sharma chose to defend my spell which was a matter of pride for me”
