Into the Group Stage of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the promising Chattisgarh took on the powerful Tamil Nadu team at Ekana Sports City Stadium where Chattisgarh opting to bat first posted a total of 132/5 in 20 overs. After losing the openers early, experienced campaigner and Captain of Chattisgarh Team Harpreet Singh Bhatia guided the innings with a well flourished 49 off 40 balls smashing 2 fours and 2 sixes. Harpreet brought his team back into the game while Ajay Mandal at no.6 scored a handy 38* off 32 balls.

Defending a total of 132, the pressure was certainly more on the Chattisgarh Team but they did a brilliant job of defending a low total and restricting Tamil Nadu to 126/9 in 20 overs. Almost all the bowlers contributed well with Ravi Kiran and Sahban Khan being the pick of the lot taking 3/26 and 2/21 respectively as Chattisgarh won a low scoring thriller by 7 runs.
