Into the all important finals of the MCA Salarjung Tournament, Cricket Club of India after being put to bat first on Islam Gymkhana Ground made a massive total of 222/4 in 20 overs. Openers Akhil Herwadkar and Akash Anand (29 runs) gave a flying start putting up 75 runs stand in the first 7 overs. Akhil top scored in the match with a brilliant half century as he scored a quickfire 74 off 40 balls laced with 8 boundaries and 4 sixes. Akhil laid the foundation while all-rounders Akash Parkar (59* off 30 balls) and Shams Mulani (35* off 17 balls) perfectly played the role of finishers to take the team to a strong total.
Young Friends Cricket Club in reply did manage to put up a show making the game interesting till the very end. Young Friends CC scored 217/7 in 20 overs with Ishan Mulchandi scoring 75 runs off 46 balls. The game was on live wire till the very last over until they fell short of just 5 runs in the final delivery of the match. CCI bowlers did a fine job in the death overs as they won the finals by 5 runs to become the Champions of Salarjung Tournament.
Akhil Herwadkar who scored 74 runs also bowled a crucial 18th over where he took 1/5 changing the momentum was adjudged ‘Man of the Match”
