Abhishek Jain – “My Aim is to work with the Mumbai Ranji & Indian Team”

In this exclusive interview with Abhishek Jain, he shares with us how he got into the professional of sidearm. For the uninitiated, 23 yr old Abhishek Jain is a sidearm specialist from Mumbai and he gives throwdown practice at Dinesh Lad sir’s cricket academy in Mumbai. Abhishek is quite skilled at giving throwdowns and when we spotted him, we decided to ask him a few questions on how it all began and what he aims for in future.

So how did this journey as a sidearm specialist began?

I started giving throwdowns in 2017 when it was not even that popular. I took the stick in my hands and started practicing it. The more I did practice, I realized that I am enjoying this process. Soon I started bowling to batsman and they also gave positive feedback, so that is how it all began.

What elements do you keep in mind while providing practice to batsman?

I am a cricketer myself, I pursue professional cricket in Mumbai and I have played a lot of local and maidan cricket. Hence, the background of me being a player helps. I take notes from the batters on what areas do they want me to bowl on while I also use my brains to spot difficult lengths and areas to bowl which will result in quality practice for a batsman.

What are some of your stock deliveries and what’s your highest speed?

I bowl at 130+ consistently while I am good at bowling those toe crushing Yorkers and bouncers. Even batsman enjoy when I start bowling them Yorkers and bouncers.

What kind of players have you worked with so far?

I have worked with many professional Ranji and IPL level cricketer right from the likes of Atif Attarwala, Siddhesh Lad, Shashank Singh, Akhil Rajput, Ishaan Roy, Suved Parkar, Rudra Tank, Aayush Jethwa, Pranav Kapadia, Ishaan Roy to name a few.

What are your plans for future?

I am working day in and day out to be faster, I aim to work with the Mumbai Ranji Team as I have been a huge follower of Mumbai team since my childhood. I am open to work with any cricket team wherever opportunities come by. My ultimate aim is definitely to be a part of the Indian Squad and make my country and everyone related to me proud.
