How Cricket Explained’s 9yr old Ovi Dalvi grabbed attention of Zoomcricket | Coach Stories

Hrishikesh Puranik

Mumbai is a land which has a rich heritage of cricket, it has given India some of the finest talents and there is something about Aamchi Mumbai when it comes to cricket which makes us different from other cities. Even when we speak about Women’s Cricket in Mumbai, whether it’s our legendary Diana Edulji or in more recent times, Jemimah Rodrigues being one of the key batters for India in white ball format or Manali Dakshini leading the Mumbai team, we have consistently seen good talent in women’s cricket emerging in Mumbai.

However, those flashes of talent are recognized from a very small age itself and one such little master who seems to be promising is 9 yr old Ovi Dalvi from Mumbai getting groomed under Coach Hrishikesh Puranik from Cricket Explained Academy.

Ovi Dalvi studies at St Joseph High School in Dombivali where Cricket Explained Academy also operates from, it was 4 months back when Ovi came under Coach Hrishikesh’s training radar and there has been no looking back since then!

“Ovi learns new concepts very quickly. A quick learner too along with her will to learn and just keep playing. Some just learn everyday but to bring that in the game takes time. She is quick to understand and executes the concepts taught to her. As a coach, especially in beginners what I see are the smallest of the movements that athletes make, which eventually gets them in correct positions. She runs well, she is very quick to turn and run back again. Most athletes take time to turn and get back, she does it effortlessly. She is a natural athlete”

Her overall growth as a cricketer has been impressive so far in terms of batting and fielding. At the tender age of 9, if she is understanding so much about the how to grip the bat & why she is not able to time the ball, then I certainly feel she is special. Without fail, she writes her diary where she mentions all the errors she made during the session and her learnings. She understands if the bat lift is not done at the right time, the downswing will be wrong. She understands, writes and implements really well and we look forward to grooming her for future”

A relation of a student and a Coach lies on the foundation of trust, selflessness and will of growing together. Hence, we at Zoomcricket wish Coach Hrishikesh and little master Ovi a great future ahead together!
