Shivakanth Elluri’s unbeaten 77* helps Spartans CC defeat Roding Valley 2XI in ECCL Premier Division League’23

Roding Valley after being put to bat first at Jack Carter Pavilion (Oakfield Playing Fields Fairlop) by Spartans were all out for 174/10 in 45 overs. Most of their batters managed starts but could not convert into big individual scores. From the bowlers, Rajesh (Bob) was the pick of the lot taking 3/37 in 9 overs including a maiden. Apart from Rajesh, Kicho and Ahmad made key contributions with the ball taking 2wkts a piece.

Chasing 175, Spartans Essex Cricket Club did face some early jitters as Roding Valley did manage to give a fight. However, Shivakanth Elluri anchored the chase with a brilliant unbeaten half century smashing 77* off 121 balls which included 7 boundaries. Shiva also got good support from Reddy (10 runs) with whom he stitched 40 run stand for the 7th wicket and Rajesh (27*) with whom he stitched an unbeaten 62 run stand for the 8th wicket as Spartans CC crossed the victory line in the 44th over winning the match by 3 wkts.
