Skipper Vaibhavi Raja and Gargi Bandekar ensure a dominating win for Matunga Gymkhana in 1st MCA Women’s League’23

Vaibhavi Raja

Dadar Parsi Colony Sporting Club after being put to bat first at DPC Matunga Ground made a total of 126/3 in 20 overs. Opener Riya Pawar top scored with 52 runs off 55 balls smashing 7 boundaries at a strike rate of 96.00 which might be slightly below par in current T20 standards. Riya Doshi and Kasturi at the middle order chipped in with unbeaten 20’s. From the bowlers, Khurshid Shaikh and Vaibhavi Raja bagged a wicket each in their spell of 4 overs.

Chasing 127, Skipper Vaibhavi Raja led from the front anchoring the chase with an aggressive 49* off 37 balls. Vaibhavi showed intent from the very beginning that she will play on merit to keep the scoreboard ticking smashing as many as 10 boundaries. She was well supported by her opening Gargi who scored 46* off 51 balls as both the batters missed out on well deserved half centuries.

Never the less, they went back home winning as Matunga Gymkhana won by 10 wkts and 6.1 overs to spare. Vaibhavi’s all-round show helping her bag “Player of the Match” award.
